Vitamin E

February 4th, 2009

Are you taking the right form of Vitamin E? It should be a mixed tocopherol formula — gamma tocopherol, alpha tocopherol and delta tocopherol. For optimal health benefits you need to make sure it contains Gamma E Tocopherol because it attacks free radicals which play a vital role in age-related decline.

Life Extension adds sesame lignans to their product because they are high in tocotrienols and increase the antioxidant benefits of Vitamin E and help decrease inflammation.

Beware of products adding hydrogenated or fractioned oils to their vitamins.

Bone Density

February 4th, 2009

Every year over a million people are hospitalized due to fractures (unaware that they have osteoporosis). There are many factors involved besides aging. In the young it is usually due to poor diet (low calcium, magnesium and D3 intake). In most people (men as well as women), it’s due to hormone changes as well as lack of exercise, smoking, not eating enough calcium and magnesium rich foods, use of corticosteroid drugs and not taking the proper supplements.

New studies link hip fractures to fluoridated water. Fluoridated water literally leaches calcium out of the bones.

In women change of life (low hormones levels) and removal of ovaries puts you at a greater risk. Depression in both men and women is another factor, especially when they are extremely underweight.

Many people aren’t aware of what calcium supplements they should be taking. Keep in mind it’s very important not to take more than 600 mgs. at once because you cannot absorb more than that at a given time. The best way to take calcium is two to three times a day with a synergistic blend of B12, zinc, copper, manganese, potassium, boron, magnesium, D3, Vitamin C and Vitamin K2 (MK7).

Each vitamin and mineral plays an important role in helping the body to improve bone density. Jarrow Bone-Up is an excellent choice because it contains all of the aforementioned. Follow the instructions on the bottle — they are there for an important reason.

After 35 years of age have a bone density test (which is non-invasive) at least every two years or whatever your doctor recommends.

Fractions in elderly is the start of severe health problems, so you should take the aforementioned suggestion very seriously.

Mushrooms effect on Immune System

January 31st, 2009

Japanese have used mushrooms for centuries because of their healing properties. They increase NK (Natural Killer) cell activity, which inhibit cancer cells, protect the mitochondria and rev up immune system. They have been known to lower liver enzymes in people with hepatitis (increases interferon in the body naturally).

Some people may be concerned if they have an over-active immune system (e.g., lupus or MS)that these mushrooms overstimulate, however, they are known to modulate. They also have anti-viral and liver fortifying benefits.

I recommend Enzymatic Therapy Cell Forte Purple Mushroom Defense, Mega Food Purple Corn Reishi Antler or Maitake Gold by Natural Factors.

Wheatgrass

January 6th, 2009

Are you missing your wheatgrass; substitute with Pure Planet 100% Organic Green Kamut. It’s rich in chlorophyll and nutrients. May increase a person’s stamina, purifies the blood, while building healthy blood cells, cleanses the body and may inhibit the growth of bad bacteria, neutralizes body odor, may heal gum disease and help circulation.

It has as much vitamin C as citrus fruits and is as high in vitamin A as dark green vegetables or carrots. It’s almost impossible to eat as many fruits and vegetables to attain the nutrients that are in wheatgrass.

Years ago, I knew a man who had cancer and he drank wheatgrass everday for months. His cancer went into remission.

Anemia in Men

January 6th, 2009

Why would a man be anemic when he looks perfectly healthy, eats enough iron rich foods, exercises and is of average or above normal weight? Usually, I suggest they see their doctor and I ask them if they are taking aspirins and/or other over-the-counter anti-inflammatories. Other than a serious illness, this is the most common reason for internal bleeding. Bleeding is sometimes seen in stools or urine, but usually it’s not visible until it becomes worse.

Many overdue the recommended dosages and this can become very dangerous. I have met several people who needed blood transfusions. Some people are just very sensitive and should not use any anti-inflammatories at all.

One Medical Doctor said to avoid the aforementioned problem visit your local Health Food store and talk to the Natural Health Practioner who will help you with natural alternatives.

I recommend Designs for Health Inflammatone, Jarrow Curcumin or New Chapter Zflamend just to name a few.

Tart Cherry Concentrate

December 6th, 2008

Tart cherries (ORAC) are nature’s powerful antioxidants, containing anti-inflammatory anthocyanins. Therefore, they may assist the body when in pain associated with arthritis and/or the gout. You may ask what’s ORAC — it means Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, which is the ability to scavenge free radicals.

It naturally produces your body’s natural melatonin to balance circadian rhythm to help induce sleep. Also, according to Pure Planet Products, Noni, gojiberry and mangosteen simply cannot compare to tart cherries because you need only “1″ (one) ounce a day for it to be beneficial rather than 2 to 4 ounces to obtain the full benefits.

CoQ10

August 31st, 2008

CoQ10 is used for cardiovascular health, for its antioxidant benefits, healthy gums, cancer prevention and many other purposes. We have a full array of products that have CoQ10 in them as well as on its own.

We have a full array of products that have CoQ10 in them as well as on its own. I suggest using Jarrow Q-absorb.

CoQ10 helps strengthen the heart muscle and helps it work more effeciently (especially with hawthorne berries). It also works synergistically with Vitamin E.

CoQ10 works on a cellular level, which means it works on every cell in the body.

Pycnogenol

August 30th, 2008

Pycnogenol, from the pine bark, is a powerful bioflavanoid antioxidant (stronger than E or C). It benefits the brain, connective tissues (skin), eyes, heart and immune system. It’s compared to grape seed which is another beneficial antioxidant known as oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC’s) I suggest 50 mg. to 100 mg. a day without any harmful side effects.

Mega Food’s makes Cardio Strength with both OPC’s as well as other important antioxidants.

Nature’s Way makes Dr. Masquelier’s Tru-OPC’s.

BioChem makes Pycnogenol and Grape Seed in different strengths.

For skin care I recommend Derma E’s Pycnogenol moisturizing cream or Age-Defying Day Cream and Now’s Grapeseed Oil (for every skin type).
