Petroleum

April 28th, 2009

I cannot believe that people are still using petroleum jelly – some forms may be toxic. Also, if used on your private areas it will cause bacteria to grow. If you use it, make sure it says pure petrolatum USP.

Many people, especially women are complaining about chronic vaginal infections. Besides antibiotics, which tend to cause yeast infections — use of the aforementioned jelly is a big problem.

Try Emerita personal moisturizer or NOW vegetable glycerine. Most women are allergic to ointments and gels in that area unless they specify on bottle – made from water base and natural oils. Also, fruits and perfumes can be a big problem even when they are natural — so choose unscented products.

One of our customers has been using petroleum jelly on her face and body for years unaware of its toxicity.  I recommended NOW Shea Butter, which is a 100% natural.  I use it on my face and body after showering at night.  At one time I purchased a product ($50 or more), which claimed to help sagging and dryness as we age.  Low and behold the main ingredient was shea butter, however it was mixed with ingredients that weren’t natural.
